Travel the World in 7 Cocktails

We all know and love cocktails such as Martini, Manhattan, G&T, Pimm’s Cup, Sex on the Beach, Bellini, or Mimosa. We are familiar with them because they have their roots in Europe and North America and have become mainstream because they taste good, but also because they are a staple of Western popular culture.

This summer we might still not be able to travel to exotic destinations due to the pandemic, but we could have a taste of foreign lands by trying some cocktails that are extremely popular or have their origins overseas.

We have chosen seven cocktails for the seven continents. Yes, even one to remind us of dear old Antarctica. These are iconic drinks for these continents, and we are happy to share them with you and to suggest some recipes so that you can recreate them yourself. Enjoying these cocktails are much better especially if you hire a mobile cocktail bar. Professional bartenders will prepare and serve them to you and bring an exotic touch to your party.

Dawa Cocktail

To represent Africa, we chose the Dawa cocktail, invented in a restaurant in Nairobi, Kenia. For the Dawa, you need 60ml vodka, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 lime, and ice cubes. Cut the lime into squares and place them in a lowball glass together with sugar and honey. Stir gently. Add vodka and ice and continue stirring. Garnish with a lime twist.

Polar Bear

This cocktail was not invented in Antarctica, but it reminds us of this much-battered continent thanks to its name.

To make it, you need 15 ml crème de cacao and 15ml peppermint schnapps. Shake the ingredients with crushed ice and pour them in a cold shot glass. Garnish with a mint leaf.

Ginza Mary

Due to its famous spirits, we have chosen Japan to represent Asia in our little map of cocktails of the world. Ginza Mary is the Japanese version of the better-known Bloody Mary. Add to a shaker 45ml sake, 30ml vodka, 15ml lemon juice, 60ml tomato juice, 1 dash soy sauce, and 2 dashes Tabasco sauce. Shake them with ice. Serve with ice and garnish with black pepper.

Japanese Slipper

Despite having ‘Japanese’ in the name, this cocktail was invented in 1984, in a restaurant in Melbourne, Australia. Pour in a shaker 30 ml Midori liqueur, 30ml Cointreau, and 30ml lemon juice. Shake them with ice. Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Vesper Martini

Choosing a single cocktail to confer a taste of Europe is a challenging task. Here is our proposal: the Vesper Martini. The cocktail was invented by Ian Fleming, the creator of the James Bond character, as his signature drink. It’s sophisticated and just a little bit dangerous. Pour 60ml gin, 20ml vodka, and 10ml vermouth into a shaker. Add ice cubes and shake. Strain the contents into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Margarita

Probably one of the most known cocktails in the world, the Margarita cocktail comes from North America, specifically from Mexico. To make a classic Margarita, you need 50ml tequila, 25ml lime juice, 20ml sec liqueur, salt, and lime wedges. Pour the tequila, lime juice, and liqueur into the shaker, and shake with ice. Wipe the outside rim of your glass with a lime wedge and then roll the rim in salt. Strain the mix into the glass and add a lemon wedge to the rim.

Caipirinha

Caipirinha comes from Brazil, the biggest country in South America. The main ingredient is the cachaça, Brazil’s national spirit. Add 2 lime wedges and 5 tablespoons of sugar in a jar and muddle them to get the juice out of the lime. Add 200ml of cachaça, pour in glasses, and add crushed ice. Garnish it with lime wedges.

You can also enjoy these cocktails at your private or corporate event by employing the services of a cocktail bar hire company . Professional bartenders will prepare and serve them to you and bring an exotic touch to your party.
